Margaret Kathryn (“Kathy”) Pierce, 60, of Red Bank died peacefully surrounded by family members on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at Riverview Medical Center.  She was a graduate of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School and Harvard University, and was a longtime employee of the State of NJ.  Born Margaret Kathryn Kaepplein in Covington, KY on March 4, 1952, she grew up in Fair Haven before leaving for college, where she earned a degree in English Literature.  She loved to read her Bible and Kierkegaard, play Bach Two-Part Inventions on the piano and indulge her cats with affection.

Kathy is survived by her devoted husband of 12 years, Samual Bailey Pierce III of Red Bank; by her mother, Jane Kaepplein of Fair Haven; by her sister Kristin Kaepplein of Chevy Chase, MD; by her brother, Eric Kaepplein of Towson, MD; by her nieces, Katrielle Cohen of Jessup, MD and Sarah Kinney of Rockville, MD; and by her nephew, Natan Cohen of Alexandria, VA.  She was predeceased by her father, Frank, who died Jan. 3, 2013, and her sister Martha Jane Kinney of Rockville, MD, who died Sept. 11, 2004. 

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 at the First Baptist Church of Red Bank.
