S. Lewis (Lew) Doughty, 91, of Red Bank died on July 16, 2011 at his borough home. Lewis was born in Tempe, Arizona, He was a graduate of the University of Washington and attended Harvard Medical School. During World War II he served as a captain in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Normandy invasion in France on June 6, 1944. Lewis held several patents through his early work as a chemist. Following a long career as a product development and marketing management executive in the metal finishing industry, Lewis joined the Federal workforce at Fort Monmouth. He retired 11 years ago. He was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church at Tower Hill in Red Bank and a member of the Root Beer and Checkers Club in recent years.
His wife and the love of his life for 64 years, Elizabeth Nason Doughty, died in 2006. Lewis is survived by a son,Sameul L. Doughty II of Sunbury, Pa; daughters, Anne D. Merry of Point Pleasant, Marty D. Capino and her husband, Samuel; of Yorktown, VA, Susan Barnett and her husband, James of Clermont, FL and Sarah S. Doughty of College Park, MD; and grandchildren, Samuel L. Doughty IV of East Hampton, NY, and Elizabeth K Capino and Amanda C. Capino, both of Yorktown,VA.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on July 20 at the First Presbyterian Church at Tower Hill, 226 Harding Road, Red Bank, N.J.
