Doggy Olympics at Best Friends Pet Care
The Shrewsbury pet care center is holding olympics for its furry, four-legged friends through Aug. 10.
London isn’t the only town where athletes are bringing home medals this week. Competitors from across the county are bringing home the gold for achievements in hurdles, wrestling, and diving for bones.
So says Best Friend Pet Care, a Shrewsbury doggy day care hosting its own version of the Olympics, Shrewsbury Doggy Games, through Aug. 10. Canine athletes, they say, are jumping through hoops to capture gold.
We assume literally.
"Our doggy day campers love to run, jump and wrestle, so we often hold special events. We thought a Doggy Olympics was a perfect way to celebrate the London Games," Best Friends Manager Sasha Armstrong said in a recent release. "We're having lots of fun. The best thing about canine competition is that dogs really don't care who wins and who loses; they just love playing the games!"
According to the folks at Best Friend Pet Care, sports include track and field, swimming, ball games and wrestling. Many nations are represented, too, from German Shepherds, to French Poodles, English Bulldogs, and all-American mutts.
