Draping in Red Bank
The new internet sensation named for Mad Men character Don Draper visits the Secret Stash, home of Comic Book Men.
Sometimes it's hard to keep up.
First there was planking, which largely consists of lying face down in odd places, often in public. Then there was Tebowing, named after NFL quarterback and Christianity enthusiast Tim Tebow who kneels down and rests his hand on his forehead in silent prayer after scoring a touchdown.
Now, say hello to Draping.
Named for Mad Men character Don Draper, often seen in the familiar pose of resting his arm over the back of a couch while sitting down, the internet meme is but a few days old, which means that it's already spread like wildfire through the internet, generating its own tumblr page and being popularized through a Twitter hashtag.
Thanks to Marlboro Patch editor Kaitlyn Anness, who happens to be up on such things, we at Red Bank Patch were tipped off to a documented instance of Draping on Broad Street recently, and by a star of the smash reality AMC hit, Comic Book Men, no less.
Ming Chen, one fourth of the star power behind the show filmed at Red Bank's own Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash, Twittered an image of fellow comic book man Mike Zapcic Draping one day outside of the store. Not only do Mad Men and Comic Book Men share the same television network, but now the Don Draper pose, too. And be sure to check out the Spock action figure, featured in Sunday night's episode, in Zapcic's hand.
If you'd like to give it a try, the rules are simple: while you're either sitting or standing - sitting is preferable - extend either your right or left arm and rest it over the back of whatever is supporting you, be it couch back, fence top, or even a friend.
Show the world your skills and earn unprecedented celebrity by uploading a photo of your own here or emailing us one at edward.vanembden@patch.com. All participants will be eligible to win one of several prizes, including a Patch tote bag, water bottle, or pen, which can be used to write things.
