How Was Your Electric Service During Hurricane Sandy? BPU Wants to Know

If your electric service was out for weeks, you can vent at a series of statewide BPU hearings

In some parts of the state, the power outages after Hurricane Sandy lasted for more than two weeks. Now the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) wants to know what consumers think about how their local electric utilities handled the hurricane.

The BPU is seeking public input in a series of public forums throughout the state. Public hearings involving the performance of Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) are scheduled. The next is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18 at Hopatcong Middle School.

These are just the beginnings of hearings that will held statewide, said BPU spokesman Earl Pierce.

"We're still deciding the schedule. There will be more set up throughout the state," Pierce said.

The BPU also is accepting comments via email and letter through Jan. 31.

Written comments may also be submitted via email to board.secretary@bpu.state.nj.us or in writing to:

My JCPL supplied electricity was out for 6 days because of the "damages that my fellow NJ residents trees did" when those trees fell onto JCPL lines and poles and knocked out transformers. I blame my Neighbors whose trees fell___not JCPL. EVERYONE that had one of their trees fall and damage JCPL lines should be fined and made to pay the entire repair costs and pay the rest of us for all the lost food in our refrigerators and freezers.. Just as if they drove their vehicle into a JCPL pole and took it down. Come on wake up and get real__the blame for extended outages belongs entirely to the negligent tree owners that refuse to trim their own trees. Because of their negligence we will all end up paying higher rates due to the repair cost that will be passed onto us all. These kind of power outages will NEVER end___ as long as Negligent tree owners are allowed to freely get away with being negligent without any penalty..

The town Mayors and town councils are far more responsible for the outages than JCPL__since it is the Mayors and town councils that do nothing about tree trimming in their towns. Yet it is their Human nature to blame JCPL for a bad situation that they created themselves by not trimming trees in their own towns or forcing property owners to trim their own trees. This problem will continue Forever__until the root cause is addressed___Trees.

Six days without power yet my JCP&L electric bill was the same as last year for the same amount of days, with a meter reading , not a estimate reading .and almost the same temperature both years you figure?

Some towns like their pretty trees and won't allow the power companies to trim them away from the lines.
