Latest Forecast Brings Sandy Closer to Shore Area

Storm predicted to be off N.J. coast Tuesday morning

The latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center on Thursday predicts a weakened – but still potent – Hurricane Sandy directly off the Jersey Shore by Tuesday morning.

The 11 a.m. update from the Miami-based agency shows Sandy – a post-tropical cyclone by the time it reaches New Jersey – making a sharp turn to the northwest Monday morning, with the storm sitting just offshore by Tuesday at 8 a.m. The wider predicted track of the storm shows it making landfall anywhere between the northern North Carolina coast and Massachusetts.

(See prediction graphic attached to this story.)

"The track model guidance continues to trend toward the northwest as Sandy interacts with an amplifying shortwave trough over the mid-Atlantic states," a forecast discussion advisory posted on the agency's website said Thursday afternoon. "However, there remains significant differences in regard to the timing of this interaction and where the northwest turn will occur."

Forecasters said the current, officiall track of the storm from the National Hurricane Center is the balance between two forecast models.

The storm is forecast to maintain strong tropical storm force winds of 70 m.p.h. by the time it reaches the Shore area, just shy of 74 m.p.h. hurricane force winds.

No watches or warnings have been issued for New Jersey, or any other area in the mid-Atlantic region, though tropical storm warnings and watches have been issued for entire east coast of Florida.

You people are nuts. We are about to get hit with a storm they are callin the worse in recorded history, and you bashing bennies and holding up signs about the end of the world.

Would you not be better off securing your property and making sure you have the supplies you will need? I can hear you all crying now, the store has no batteries, the store has no bread or milk.

@BW; "...We are about to get hit with a storm they are callin the worse in recorded history..." get the video camera out 'cause we are living through an historical moment.

I gotta get to the tee shirt guy today and get order a few hundred tee's saying; "I survived Sandy 2012"

Hate to say it though,it looks like the Mayans could have been on to something. This storm is something that's never been seen before and I expect more and more extreme weather situations to keep happening as we draw closer to 12/21/12. Once the poles shift,it's gonna make people wish for this storm all over again, "Sandy" will seem like a sunshower.

Call it whatever you like but based on the history of our local government I feel every should be prepared to at least take care of themselves and those who can't for at least two or three days.
Just over a year ago we had two large sections of town devastated by a "microburst" and then took a pretty hard glancing blow from a hurricane. Sorry to say but the Administration was not decent at OEM or DPW response to either situation. I have to say that the will most likely not be there again.
Please check on your neighbors, especially the older ones and those who have special needs.
I’m not saying go out and buy all the milk, bread and eggs up. (Heck only the bread survives with no electricity anyway) I’m saying just look around the yard, and the cabinets in the kitchen and make sure nothing is going to fly away and that you’re not expecting Mike’s Pizza to send a delivery person because you don’t even have a can of soup.

Greedy republican capitalist pigs made the pollution that caused Global Warming that made this Hurricane. If there is any damge or destruction it is all Mitt Romney's fault for being rich and greedy and hating poor people and women and minorities. Vote for Obama. he is the only one that can save the planet.

FYI people:

Now is the time to adjust your refrigerators AND freezers to make them COLDER.

It usually takes 24 hours for them to adjust to a new setting to lower the temps 1 or 2 settings soon, this way if the power does go out and you don't have any back up help, things will be colder and frozen longer.
