Each day of the month we’re bringing you our submission of a themed Photo a Day challenge. Today, Oct. 17, the theme is Favorite.

Favorite. Favorite what? Well, it's wide open today. Could be anything you'd like. Your favorite person, your favorite food, your favorite way to stand on one leg while balancing a stack of books on top of your head. Who knows? What matters is only that it's your favorite.

For my Favorite submission I've combined a couple of favorites. Here on the turntable spins my favorite record The Microphones' Recorded Live in Japan February 19th, 21st, and 22nd, 2003 by one of my favorite artists Phil Elvrum playing my favorite song from that record "Great Ghosts." Don't worry, this information won't be used as trivia for later.

With the advent of media sharing applications like Instagram and the rapid rise in photo sharing across the internet through forums like Facebook, Reddit and even Patch, there have been movements to engender creativity in the digital photography community.

One such movement that has become popular is the now-ubiquitous Photo A Day challenge. While many sites across the internet offer their own interpretations and challenge lists, the goal is always the same, to capture a digital image each day that represents that day’s specific theme.
