Police: Man Jumps Out Window to Avoid Arrest
A Red Bank man appeared in court Wednesday on allegations he fled from Sheriff's officers.
A Red Bank man appeared in Monmouth County Superior Court Wednesday on allegations that he jumped out of a second floor window to avoid Monmouth County Sheriff's officers who were there to arrest him.
According to a police report, Kareem Smith, of 187 W. Front Street, fled from law enforcement officials on Aug. 20 after failing to appear in court for a recent sentencing. While serving a warrant, sheriff's officers said Smith jumped out of a window of his second floor home and onto the street where he fled on foot.
He was eventually arrested.
Smith was remanded to Monmouth County Correctional Institution on $10,000 bail with no 10 percent option. Bail was requested, according to the report, based on Smith's criminal record and history of failing to appear in court.
Smith was arrested in Red Bank in May along with four others in connection with an investigation into drug sales. Smith was arrested along with Charles Johnson, 23, Charles Wilson, 25, Chantal Tharrington, 21, and David Hutchinson, 25, and was charged with numerous offenses, including Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession with Intent to Distribute in a School Zone, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon While Committing Distribution of Narcotics, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia.
