Red Bank Council Candidates to Square Off
Candidates night is scheduled for 7 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday
Candidates for Red Bank's upcoming council election will have the opportunity to meet the public and discuss the issues facing the borough - as well as their proposed solutions - at the Westside Community Group's annual Red Bank Candidates Night.
The event is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at River Street Commons.
The public is welcome to attend and pose questions to the candidates. Running for re-election are Democratic incumbents Mike DuPont and Council President Art Murphy. Sue Viscomi, a Republican and member of the Red Bank Board of Education, is the sole challenger.
The format of the event includes a candidate panel where each candidate will provide an opening statement of no more than three minutes. The opening statement portion of the night is followed by a Question and Answer session where audience members are encouraged to participate. Finally, the candidates night ends with a three-minute closing statement by each candidate.
The event is being held on the first floor Community Room of the senior apartment complex.
The Westside Community Group has hosted 15 Candidates Nights. Last year's event, which featured incumbent Democrats and eventual election winners Ed Zipprich and Juanita Lewis facing off against Republican challengers Joe Mizzi and former Councilwoman Mary Grace Cangemi, saw the participants discuss issues like the economy and the need for a return to fiscal responsibility.
