Shrewsbury swore in two new borough police officers Monday night to a council chambers packed with excited family and friends.

New patrolmen Ryan Cullinane and Ralph Latham signed their oaths and will help bolster a Shrewsbury Police Department that has seen several recent departures due to retirement, including its chief. The addition also gives the department two new officers who serve an active role in fighting crime and contributing to public safety.

Councilman Tom Menapace welcomed the two new officers and spoke about the job they're taking on.

"If there's any question in any one's mind as to who's the most important person in law enforcement," Menapace said. "It's the patrolman who gets in his patrol car and serves on the front line everyday. These are the most important individuals in law enforcement."
