STUDENT LIFE: An artshow benefiting area high schools
Gallery U, a fully functional art space located in the heart of the artistic community of Red Bank, NJ, is pleased to present “Student Life,” a special art exhibition featuring student artwork from local area high schools. New Jersey state funding to public schools has been cut drastically over the past few years, and no area of study has been hit harder than those in the arts. As a way to support the local community, children and the arts, Gallery U will be donating their share of profits for art sold at “Student Life” to area high school art programs. 50% of sales for all artwork sold will be paid to the student artist and the remaining 50% will be donated to the art department of the school each student represents. In addition, Gallery U will be incurring the expense of professionally framing all of the student artwork.
“Student Life” will not only benefit area high school art programs, but will also provide an excellent opportunity for students of the arts. This exhibition will provide participating students with a unique opportunity to be exhibited in a professional art gallery, a chance to benefit financially from their passion for the arts, a philanthropic occasion to give back to their school and community, and an invaluable addition to their art resume and college applications.
Thirty-five talented students from Brick Vocational High School, Howell High School, Middletown High School North, Red Bank Regional High School, and Rumson Fair Haven High School will be participating in “Student Life.” An opening reception for artists and their family and friends, and anyone looking to support our community schools, will be held on Friday evening, June 8th from 6-9PM.
Gallery U is a fully-functioning art space owned by Universal Institute, a rehabilitation facility for adults with traumatic brain injuries (TBI). Gallery U is a part of UI's vocational training program whose goal is to introcude people with TBI back into the workforce and community by taking part in many aspects of running the gallery. Gallery U strives to make art affordable with no retail price exceeding $500 for original artwork.
