Event-Filled Weekend Gets Friday Start

It's what's going on in the Red Bank-Shrewsbury area on Friday and into the weekend.

It's Friday.

Let's send those who fought the fire and are suffering tremendous loss in Seaside some heartfelt sympathy and strength. First the astronomical loss from Sandy … Now this. It's just heartbreaking.

And some of the battle 400 to 500 firefighters had to contend with involved dealing with winds from the sporadic thunderstorms last night. Thankfully, there were no major injuries. Yet, another recovery battle lies ahead for the Sandy beleaguered shore town.

In the area …

Well, the weather is supposed to be clear today with mild temperatures in the high 70s.

And, if you are still trying to sneak in some waterborne or waterfront activity, beware of rip tides after the storms, but here's the tide table for Sea Bright through the weekend:

And here's what's going on today and into the weekend:

Friday …

• There's jazz in the pocket park on Shrewsbury Avenue in Red Bank at 6:45 p.m. as part of the Count Basie 365 series.

• There are ghost tours leaving from the Dublin House at 8:30 p.m.

Saturday …

• On Borrowed Time previews with an 8 p.m. curtain at Two River Theater. Joel Grey is the show's director. This should be a good one.

Sunday …

• Red Bank Flavour's Food and Wine Walk is Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. with 20 participating restaurants. Click here for more information.

• Tour de Fair Haven bicycle races start at 7 a.m. and runs through the afternoon, with the main station at the Fair Haven Firehouse on River Road.

• Matinee performance of On Borrowed Time is at 3 p.m. at Two River Theater.

• Oh, and don't forget the Red Bank Farmers Market from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. in the Galleria parking lot.
