Monmouth Medical Center Presents May Childbirth and Parenting Programs

BABY CARE BASICS
Thursdays, May 1 & 8 from 7 to 9:00 p.m.
This two-session program focuses on the care of the new baby including bathing, dressing, feeding and infant growth. Learn everything you need to know about infant care including development, safety and decisions about returning to work and other adjustments to life with baby for the new parents. The course will be held at Monmouth Medical Center located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION (PPD)/ANXIETY SUPPORT GROUP
Thursdays, May 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. 
This support group is a safe, non-threatening group for moms or expectant moms experiencing any of the perinatal mood disorders including but not limited to sadness, anger, anxiety, OCD, intrusive/compulsive thoughts, panic or post traumatic stress disorder.  Weekly meetings are facilitated by a maternal/child health RN who specializes in PPD. This group is co-sponsored by Central Jersey Family Health Consortium and is held at Pollak Center, located at 75 N. Bath Avenue in Long Branch. For information call 732-923-5234.  Free.

TWO-DAY PREPARATION FOR CHILDBIRTH
Saturdays, May 3 & 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A complete childbirth education program in two-sessions including lectures on relaxation and breathing techniques. A continental breakfast will be provided. This class will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. Registration is required by calling 732-923-6990. $160 per couple.

ONE-DAY MARVELOUS MULTIPLES
Sunday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
This one-day childbirth education program for those expecting twins, triplets or more is to be attended early in the second trimester of pregnancy. The class will cover nutrition, labor and delivery, anesthesia options, Cesarean section, relaxation techniques, risks and complications of multiple pregnancy, recovery and caring for multiples. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. There will also be a tour of the Regional Newborn Center. EISENBERG FAMILY CENTER TOUR
Sundays, May 4 & 18 at 3 p.m.
Tour the Eisenberg Family Center, which offers a comfortable, homelike environment for expectant mothers in our expanded labor, delivery and recovery unit, and spacious postpartum rooms for women recovering from childbirth. GRANDPARENTS PROGRAM
Monday, May 5 from 7 to 9 p.m.
During this program, grandparents will have the opportunity to meet with a prenatal educator and discuss current trends in childbirth and infant care so they can help support their own children as they become parents. A tour of The Eisenberg Family Center is included. This program will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. MOTHER TO MOTHER SUPPORT GROUP
Mondays, May 5, 12 & 19 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Once your baby arrives, join other new mothers to talk about what you are experiencing.  Discussions will be led by a registered nurse on topics including infant behavior, feeding, sleeping patterns and crying, as well as recovering from childbirth. Newborns up to age 6 months and fathers are welcome. The program will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. CHILDBIRTH UPDATE - VAGINAL BIRTH AFTER CESAREAN
Wednesday, May 7 from 7 to 9 p.m.
This childbirth preparation review program teaches the latest breathing exercises and newest aspects of obstetrics.  For those planning a vaginal birth after cesarean, discussion will include criteria, contra-indications, preparation and more.  The course will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. STEP (SYSTEMATIC TRAINING FOR EFFECTIVE PARENTING OF YOUNG CHILDREN)
Wednesdays, May 7, 14, 21 & 28 & June 4 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Parenting young children can be challenging. The five-session STEP program focuses on understanding the behavior of young children, communication, cooperation, effective discipline and nurturing children from infancy to six years. This program will take place at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. To register, call 732-923-6990. $125 per couple.

BREASTFEEDING TODAY
Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
An introduction to breastfeeding for prospective mothers and fathers focusing on the process and techniques of breastfeeding, including advantages, preparation, concerns of working mothers and the role of the family. ONE-DAY CHILDBIRTH PROGRAM

MOMS OF MULTIPLES SUPPORT GROUP
Wednesday, May 21 from 11 to 12:30 p.m.
Come join the only Moms of Multiples Support Group in the area. Led by a registered nurse and a mother of multiples herself, topics will include feeding and caring for more than one baby, sleep patterns and behaviors, getting out of the house, relationship changes and more. Meet and network with other new moms whose situations are similar to your own. Babies are welcome.  This program will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. GRANDPARENTS RAISING GRANDCHILDREN SUPPORT GROUP
Wednesday, May 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. 
Grandparent caregivers face many challenges including health issues, financial difficulties and lack of emotional support. This free ongoing monthly group helps address these issues in a supportive and caring environment. This program will be held at the Maysie Stroock Pavilion at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. To register, call 732-730-9112. Free.

ADOPTIVE PARENTING

Planning an adoption? This program helps you prepare for your child’s arrival. Classes include information on infant care, feeding and formula preparation, baby equipment, safety and child growth and development during the first year of life. For information, call 732-923-6990. $175 per couple.

GESTATIONAL DIABETES EDUCATION PROGRAM

This one-session class is designed for women who develop gestational diabetes during pregnancy. Participants will learn how gestational diabetes develops, the link between diet and blood glucose, how to plan healthy meals and how to use a blood glucose meter for home monitoring. A free blood glucose meter starter kit will be provided. Appointments are scheduled Monday through Friday as needed at The Center for Diabetes Education at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. PEDIATRIC PRE-OPERATIVE TOURS

Tours are available for pediatric patients preparing to have a surgical procedure in the Cranmer Ambulatory Surgery Center at Monmouth. Tours are designed to reduce anxiety giving children a hands-on experience with medical equipment and visitation to areas they will encounter on the day of their surgery. Meet in the Pediatric Playroom of the Cranmer Ambulatory Surgery Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. Registration is required by calling 732-923-6525. Free.
