Pure Hair Salon Holds Hair Extension Fundraiser to Support Monmouth Medical Center’s ‘Roll Out the Ribbons’ Campaign

When Nicole Ottombrino, owner of Pure Hair Salon in Ocean, heard about Monmouth Medical Center’s “Roll Out The Ribbons” campaign, she immediately knew she wanted to be involved.

Pure Hair Salon held a purple hair extension fundraiser, from July throughout the summer, to benefit the “Roll Out the Ribbons” campaign to raise awareness for all cancers. “We thought hair extensions in the color that represents all types of cancer was the perfect fit because they’re a popular accessory and a great way for people to start a conversation about “Roll Out the Ribbons” with friends and family,” said Nicole.

The Roll Out the Ribbons campaign aims to raise awareness for all types of cancer. Everyone is welcome to submit a multi-colored ribbon to be tied to the Promenade of Hope, a half mile stretch of railing along the boardwalk in Long Branch. The ribbons are a visual reminder to unite in the fight against every cancer in every community.

For Nicole, participation in the campaign is personal. “My mom passed away from brain and lung cancer in 1992 and if there’s anything I can do to help prevent others from experiencing such a loss, I want to be a part of it,” she said. Furthermore, when her mother was undergoing cancer treatments, she was a patient at Monmouth Medical Center’s Leon Hess Cancer Center. “When I found out that ‘Roll Out the Ribbons’ was developed by Monmouth Medical Center, it seemed like the perfect fit for Pure Hair Salon. I know my mom would be proud of me for getting involved.”

Ribbons of Honor can also be submitted for free online at www.rollouttheribbons.com or by filling out a short form at more than 70 participating retail locations. The Promenade of Hope will be filled with ribbons through Labor Day. The campaign will then move indoors for September and October to honor pediatric, prostate and breast cancer awareness months.
