Soap City Coin Laundry to Host Bake Sale Fundraiser to Benefit Monmouth Medical Center's 'Roll Out the Ribbons' Campaign

Cancer hits extremely close to home for Soap City Coin Laundry’s owner Laura Wood. Laura opened the Long Branch laundromat in 1988 with her late husband, who in 2009 passed away from pancreatic cancer.  When Laura heard about the Roll Out the Ribbons campaign, she immediately knew she wanted to be involved.

The Roll Out the Ribbons campaign aims to raise awareness for all types of cancer. Everyone is welcome to submit a multi-colored ribbon to be tied to the Promenade of Hope, a half mile stretch of railing along the boardwalk in Long Branch. The ribbons are a visual reminder to unite in the fight against every cancer in every community.

In an effort to support the campaign, Laura and Soap City Coin Laundry, located at 41 Montgomery Avenue in Long Branch, will host a bake sale on Sunday, August 4 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Soap City also accepts ribbons and donations for the campaign.

To raise awareness for the campaign, Laura invited everyone to participate and get involved with the bake sale. “Everyone is baking goods for it, all of my friends, my family, and even some of my Soap City customers,” said Laura. “Roll Out the Ribbons is a big thing for me. It feels like the perfect way to remember and give back.”

Ribbons of Honor can also be submitted for free online at www.rollouttheribbons.com or by filling out a short form at more than 70 participating retail locations and Barnabas Health Medical Group practices throughout Monmouth County. The Promenade of Hope will be filled with ribbons through Labor Day. The campaign will then move indoors for September, October and November to honor pediatric, prostate, breast and lung cancer awareness months.
