Celebrating Superman's 75th Birthday

They're rolling out the red carpet to celebrate the superhero's incarnation at producer Kevin Smith's Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash.

The jokes were flying like a superhero when Red Bank officials found out at Wednesday night's Borough Council meeting that there would be a birthday party for Superman in town — his 75th.

A representative of Kevin Smith's reality show Comic Book Men and its filming spot, Smith's Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash, on Broad Street, appeared before council to request the date for an approval to place a red carpet in front of the store originally Wednesday night be changed to Aug. 21, next Wednesday.

With the approval of the request, Mayor Pat Menna asked what it was for.

He got an answer and a load of quips to go along with it. The show is celebrating Superman's 75th (or the superhero's , by, among other things not disclosed, rolling out a red carpet for a few hours.

The comments flowed: "Will there be a phone booth, too?" "Will Lois Lane be there?" "What about Clark Kent?" "Are we invited?" "Are capes and tights optional?"

"No tights," was the answer, "but feel free to wear capes."

This is the third season for Comic Book Men filming at Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash. Kudos were given to the governing body and Red Bank for contributing to a successful run at the site.

No further information was given about the superhero's birthday gala, but there will definitely be a red carpet and we'll be there to see.

Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash is open for business while filming, the crew there has assured with a sign in the window.
