Don't Forget Local Memorial Day Services

Both Red Bank and Shrewsbury are hosting separate Memorial Day events Monday, find out where here.

Both Red Bank and Shrewsbury are hosting Memorial Day services Monday to commemorate the men and women who have died serving the United States military.

At 11 a.m. at 51 Monmouth, Red Bank's original borough hall and current site of a veterans memorial, several guest speakers will be in attendance, including the Red Bank Elks Exalted Ruler, Ginny Maio and Mayor Pat Menna.

The event is preceded by the dedication of a 9/11 memorial at Red Bank's current just down the street at 90 Monmouth at 10 a.m. The memorial, which includes a piece of twisted wreckage from the twin towers, features two approximately four-foot tall pillars reminiscent of the twin towers.

Shrewsbury's Memorial Day service is also being held at 10 a.m. Monday at Patriot Isle on the corner of Sycamore Avenue and Route 35.

The event will feature the rededication of a memorial plaque victimized by mother nature in the past few years. The memorial plaque was first placed on a Sycamore tree, which was struck by lightning a few years ago. Then it was transferred to a boulder where severe snow storms two years ago caused it damage. The plaque has been cleaned and restored and should last for years to come, officials say.
