Holiday Express Rocks Downtown Red Bank

Thousands packed Broad Street as Holiday Express performed its annual concert for Red Bank's Town Lighting Friday.

The concert, presented by among others, coincides with Red Bank’s Town Lighting ceremony. Each year, in addition to lighting a Christmas tree at the on Monmouth Street, the borough decorates its downtown with wreaths, lights on trees, and banners.

With the road blocked off on Black Friday, thousands of families packed Broad Street to hear Holiday Express play classic holiday songs. Children also welcomed Santa Claus, who paraded up and down Monmouth Street prior to the night’s concert.

Holiday Express recently celebrated its 18th birthday. The organization and its more than 1,300 volunteers put on dozens of shows each holiday season – this year it scheduled 55 shows between Nov. 15 and Christmas Eve, Dec. 24 – delivering music, food, gifts, financial support and friendship, according to the Holiday Express website, to adults an children who are physically and mentally disabled, living with AIDS, or homeless, as well as the elderly and others in need.
