Holy S%!# Karaoke

See, there’s a tradition at Rock and Roll Karaoke at in Red Bank every Thursday night. When a singer rocks the joint, as many have the tendency to do, despite their claims of being amateurs, the crowd shouts approval in the form of a robust holy, well, let’s just say, poop.

With an epic introduction informing all those in attendance on the second floor of the Front Street spot “this is not your grandmother’s karaoke,” though personally my grandmother isn’t much of a karaoke performer herself, the band takes the stage and lays out the ground rules. There’s no video display, no bouncing ball, and no boom box. This is the real deal, band and all.

Intimidated, well, you should be. Though the band leader promotes liquid courage to those who might be wary of stepping up on the stage and performing with only a backing band and a lyric sheet – which is rarely needed by those who take the stage – nearly every singer is quite good.
