Meditation for Peace Helps Locals De-Stress

Pranic Healing promotes positive energy flow for a healthier, less stressed life

Often times, we find ourselves being overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of every day life. There is less and less time for us, and more and more things to do in the mere 24 hours in the day.

To prevent becoming burnt out by the end of the week, many people have chosen to pursue meditation as a way of stepping back from the stress.

“Anything can be considered meditation – just sitting, focusing on your breath – in your car, anywhere,” Pranic Healing practitioner, Debbie McCann, stated.

An intimate group of locals gathered at the Eastern Branch of the Monmouth County Library Saturday morning to try this time-honored method of de-stressing with a new twist.

“I have taken a class here and there before, but I have trouble doing it on my own. I came here to see what clicks, and what motivates me,” Andi Watstein, of Old Bridge, said in an interview before the event.

Meditation for Peace is a once daily meditation plan that allows you to cleanse the energy in your body to promote a healthier aura. This method is different than traditional meditation because it not only focuses on breathing, but is also about energy flow and healing as well.

For a great deal of people, however, the distractions of everyday life are a big obstacle in obtaining the calmness required for a successful meditation session.

“The problem is that a lot of people aren’t in the moment. They worry about anxieties that are in the future. If you plan for that, you lose today,” McCann said.  “The world we’re living in is just so fast-paced. We need to set our own limits.”

Watstein agrees.

“One of the problems I find is that when you’re used to moving, it’s hard to find time to sit,” she asserted.

But, McCann insists that taking a little bit of time out of the day for yourself is necessary not only for your emotional health, but for your physical health as well.

“If we don’t take the time to take care of ourselves, we end up sick. It’s more productive just to take the time out on a daily basis,” she said during the presentation.

During the event, McCann guided the audience through the actual meditation. The ritual was started with a set of head to toe exercises in order to get energy flowing throughout the body. These exercises, which are always done in sets of 12, consisted of rolling your eyes, head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, legs, and ankles in circles. This calming procedure was followed by sitting in silence, listening to an accented man lead us in how to emit peace from our bodies.

But, although the formal practice is only done for a about a half of an hour per day, there are other ways to incorporate this kind of healing into everyday life.

“This doesn’t mean the other 23 hours and 30 minutes of the day I am running around stressed out,” McCann maintained. “There is energy everywhere. Our thoughts are energy. The sun and earth are energy. We automatically get energy from these things, but if we have a conscious intention to plug in, it will be much more powerful.”

McCann also says that what your parents have always told you is true: salt water has  healing power. She claims that soaking in a tub of it daily is very beneficial to the maintenance of a healthy life.

“The salt pulls out diseased energy,” she said. “You’ll feel extremely tired when you get out.”

McCann holds sessions like these throughout the year at both the Eastern Branch of the Monmouth County Library and the Red Bank Public Library. For more information on Pranic Healing, visit www.pranichealingusa.com
