Miss Sherri Gone From Red Bank But Still Rocking with the Little Animal Band

Though high rent and a faltering economy prompted Miss Sherri to move her headquarters to Middletown, she's still rocking out in the area.

Miss Sherri and the Little Animal Band brought to life Sunday night as they rocked out for the local children.

Miss Sherri and the Little Animal Band are a nationally known children's music group. They dress up like animals, use props and sing an arrangement of songs that keep the kids dancing. Sunday night, Miss Sherri and her animal band came to Victory Park in Rumson to perform at Family Fun Night.

This fun, wild, funny and talented group of people have been performing together for about four years. Sherri Ehrlich is the lead singer and band leader. She owns Honey Child Music where she offers music classes for children. Ehrlich left Red Bank for Middletown in June for economic reasons but promised to continue offering classes and rocking out.

When the band first got together four years ago, they performed their first concert at the Two River Theater. Just recently, the group released their first full album titled Send Them Up. "I think the most unique thing about my band is how real the music is," Ehrlich said. "The lyrics are appropriate for kids and families and the music spans across different genres."

The songs the band performed at Sunday's Family Fun Night got all the kids on their feet. Ehrlich and her co-signer Claudine (the giraffette) threw props out to the kids to get them involved in the music. Some kids were invited up on stage to dance and sing.

Parents were clapping their hands, laughing and snapping photos as their children danced around the stage. "I think this is such a great thing for the kids," said Lisa Fallon, a Rumson resident. "They get to be around their friends and their family in a safe environment that they can have fun in and enjoy."

Family Fun Night is a program offered by the Rumson Recreation department to get younger kids involved in community events. "These concerts are targeted to the young kids," said Recreation director John Hird. "We have camps, sports programs and other events for the older kids, and we want to make sure that we have something for everyone."

The Rumson Recreation department has been working hard to provide safe and fun programs for the Rumson community this summer. "We want continuous improvement," Hird said. "We never sit still and are always coming up with new ideas."

Some of the new programs that Rumson Recreation is offering this summer are An Evening with Rumson Residents, Learn to Row Camp for 6-8th grade students and a Women's Master Row program. An Evening with Rumson Residents is a series of fun and interactive classes that Rumson residents can sign up for.

The next Family Fun Night will be held on August 7th where The Fuzzy Lemons will perform.
