Art Alliance's 'Photography as an Element'

Show opened on Saturday

Gary Dates has always been known as a drummer. He still is. Always will be. But, since 2006, he's been creating to the beat of a different drummer — photography with a twist.

Dates, who you may recognize from his many years in the band Line Drive, photographs actors acting out scenes according to his photo theme and plops them into surreal scenarios.

He was one of several artists whose work is now being featured at the Art Alliance's Photography as an Element Show, curated by Elizabeth and Robert McKay. The show opened on Saturday night at the Monmouth Street, Red Bank, venue.

Also featured are: Holly Suzanne Rader, Jill Kerwick, Tom McCarthy, Dee Ann McCarthy, Mary Cooper, El McCarthy and John Kochansky.
