Rains Roll In, Classic Cars Roll Out

Red Bank's Car Cruise was washed out Wednesday as thunderstorms drenched the downtown.

On a typical car cruise night, more than 100 classic rides roll through downtown Red Bank in a revival of a decades-old tradition that first gained popularity in the 1950s and 60s.

Wednesday night's car cruise, however, was a washout as yet more scattered thunderstorms drenched the downtown right in the middle of what should have been yet another classic car showcase. Though most got the message, a scant few classic cars did show up, parking along Broad Street and looking out of place without company.

There was enough word that the original Batmobile circa 1966 was going to show up. Alas, the weather failed to cooperate. It was not immediately clear if a rain date would be scheduled.
