Red Bank Turn-of-the-Century Snow Day

A sledding alternative of the early 1900s

No, it's not a horse-drawn snow blower. It's cutter racing on the Navesink circa 1905.

While cutter racing is still going on all over the country in all sorts of weather, you're not likely to see it happening on a frozen snow-blanketed river these days.

The Monmouth County Historical Association posted the photo on its Facebook page. It's a depiction of the alternative to sledding for some folks back in the day when the snow fell on the Navesink and its banks in Red Bank.
