Red Cross Distributes Food to the Powerless

Two centers, one in Middletown, one in Freehold, have food available for all county residents without food.

The American Red Cross will distribute food at Middletown High School North, 63 Tindal Road, on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Jersey Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross will also distribute food outside 89 Center St. in Freehold Borough on Wednesday, Aug. 31 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., according to chapter Food Distribution Manager Jen Swan.

Food will be provided to any Monmouth County resident without power, Swan said. JCP&L reports over 53,000, including 4,000 in Freehold, remain without electricity Wednesday. Hurricane Irene downed trees and power lines across the region Saturday and Sunday.

The American Red Cross has not determined whether or not food will also be distributed Thursday.

“We’re still speaking with the Monmouth County OEM (Office of Emergency Management) about it. It all depends on the power,” Swan said.
