Elvis Birthday Bash at the Count Basie Theatre

"The King" is resurrected for a night of music and fun

January is the birth month of the only “King” that no one ever forgets: Elvis Presley.  Born January 8th, 1935, Elvis had a short yet vibrant career that left millions of fans yearning for his music and performances long after his death in 1977.  Thankfully, through the power of impersonation, Elvis fans will once again get to celebrate Elvis’ music and performance style when they attend the Elvis Birthday Bash concert at the Count Basie Theater on Friday, January 21st, 2011. In its 7th consecutive year, the Elvis Birthday Bash at the Count Basie is a night of fun that people of all ages look forward to. This year, the show will star two top of the line Elvis performers; Scot Bruce and Mike Albert.

The Elvis of the 1950’s and 1960’s is brought to life by Los Angles based artist Scot Bruce. His uncanny resemblance to the young Elvis Presley and his mesmerizing performance skills have helped his Elvis Tribute Show sell out venues throughout the United States and abroad. He performs with a four piece band and also sings and plays guitar. Scot’s show earns rave reviews wherever he goes, and he has earned the love and adoration of critics and fans alike. He has sold out shows worldwide and has won acclaim for his portrayal of Elvis. About his show, CNN stated, “the closest they can get to Elvis in the flesh is a Scot Bruce show.”   An actor and musician, Bruce has a reoccurring role on the popular soap operas Days of Our Lives and The Bold and the Beautiful.  He has also appeared, as Elvis, in videos for Faith Hill and Sheryl Crow.  He has also starred in productions of Idols of the King, regularly performs at Disneyland in California and has been lucky enough to perform with the Jordanaires, Elvis’ original backup vocalists.

Mike Albert, whose hometown is Memphis, Tennessee, is known for his Ultimate Tribute Show in which he portrays the late Elvis Presley.  Albert performs with a seven piece band in order to replicate the musical sounds of Elvis in his later career.  Mike is able to seamlessly switch his vocal styles to match the rock and roll or gospel style of singing that Elvis became popular for. He was the winner of the 1996 Images of Elvis Contest in Memphis and has been featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show and A Current Affair with Maury Povich.  He has earned the respect of Elvis Presley’s musicians and backup singers and frequently performs with the Jordanaires.
