TAVERNFEST

TAVERNFEST to be Held at the Historic Allen House

Raise a mug and support the Monmouth Country Historical Association at its third annual Tavernfest celebration on Friday, October 12th, from 7-10 pm.   The evening’s festivities will be held in a tent on the grounds of the 300-year old Allen House, the town’s most noted tavern in its day.   Located at the historic four corners of Broad and Sycamore Streets in Shrewsbury, this exciting event is for history lovers and beer drinkers alike!

In colonial America, the tavern rivaled the church as the community’s most vital social institution. Josiah Halstead’s tavern, now known as the Allen House, served as the court, town hall, post office, dance hall and gathering place. It is the oldest surviving tavern in the county and just one of five historic sites maintained and interpreted by the Association.

Several hundred Tavernfest attendees will enjoy a private viewing of the Allen House and period entertainment, followed by an all-you-can-eat-and-drink evening of local beer specially crafted by Carton Brewing, wine provided by Rumson Wine & Spirits, and award-winning barbeque provided by Local Smoke BBQ.  A dessert buffet will feature tasty treats from a variety of local bakeries.  Guests will also enjoy entertainment, chance games, a 50/50 raffle, and an auction of special seasonal wreaths donated by local florists.  Proceeds from this event benefit the work of the Association.

Carton Brewing will bring its Pumpkin Cream Ale in a traditional cask, where the carbonation is naturally created rather than through the use of bottled carbon dioxide.  Also on-hand will be a keg of Carton’s 077XX Double IPA. This brew, with its dynamic malt profile and orange, mango and papaya aromas, is "inspired by the west coast IPAs" Carton loves and only available in New Jersey.  "A double IPA perfect for adding fuel to the fire of a dinner, a game, or an idea, drink it when your night matters,” says Augie Carton.  The evening's brew selections will be rounded out with a keg of  Carton Harvest 2012 CITRA, a rye pale ale hopped with fresh harvested green hops.
