Inside August Wilson's Jitney

Two River Theater Company unveils a new video series just in time for its newest production.

With August Wilson's Jitney debuting to the public in Red Bank Tuesday night, has unveiled a new short video series to tease the performance as well as to provide insight into the play, its roles, and the actors portraying them.

Called Inside the Rehearsal Room, the first video posted online by the theater company features James A. Williams who plays longtime Jitney driver Doub in the play. In the video, Williams discusses not only the play's themes, but his family, his life as an actor and the unifying aspect of the theater. Be sure to watch the video, posted above.

The play is an examination of the human condition. Jitney is set in 1977 Pittsburgh in a makeshift storefront depot for gypsy cab drivers. The play shows how men needed to hustle to make a living as jitneys—unofficial, unlicensed taxi cab drivers. During the play, the men share stories and gossip, and the station owner must confront his son when he returns home from prison.
