Patch Projector: Al Pacino
Academy Award winning actor Al Pacino visits Red Bank's Count Basie Theatre for "One Night Only."
Screen legend, American icon and Academy Award winner, Al Pacino appeared at the Count Basie Theatre on June 1st. The event billed as "One Night Only," was a mix of stories and insights into his life and career, the art of both, as only a singular character like Pacino could live and retell.
Pacino joked with the sold-out crowd as if across a table or living room. The evening included a very off-the-cuff Q&A with audience members as well. New York University film professor Richard Brown acted as interviewer for the evening. Though quite earnest in his role, Brown seemed out of his element or out matched in terms of his subject's larger than life conversational or storytelling skills. Pacino truly needed no one else on stage with him. To close the show, Pacino, finally and fittingly alone on the stage, performed the this peace is real monologue from Eugene O'Neill's 1939 classic drama, The Iceman Cometh.
