Phoenix to Bring My Fair Lady to Basie Stage

Performances of the classic Broadway hit begin Sept. 14.

Phoenix Productions will present the hit Broadway Musical My Fair Lady for two weekends at the in Red Bank and one weekend at the Strand Center for the Arts in Lakewood, the group recently announced.

The Phoenix revival features a cast of 30 performers led by Mandy Feiler as Eliza, a flower girl that learns to become a "proper lady," according to a release. The supporting cast includes familiar Phoenix faces such as Bob Brown as Jamie and Kent Sweeney as Alfred Doolittle, as well as debut performers Jim Neil as Professor Higgins, and Mark Schumacher as Colonel Pickering.

Performances will begin Sept. 14 and conclude Sept. 29.

My Fair Lady is based on George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion. The show first opened on Broadway in 1956 and ran for a record-breaking 2,717 performances. The score features songs such as “Get Me to the Church”, “I Could Have Danced All Night”, and “On the Street Where You Live.”

My Fair Lady is one of the most classic Broadway musicals.” Producer Andrea Zawadzky said in a release. “It is a tale about a girl from the streets and her transformation into a lady. It shows how with a little perseverance, everyone can reach their full potential.”

My Fair Lady will play at the Basie on Sep. 14, 15, and 16, and the following weekend on Sept. 21, 22, and 23. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m.

The show will also premier at the Strand Center for the Arts in Lakewood on Sept. 29 for a 2 p.m. matinee and an 8 p.m. performance.

Phoenix Productions, founded in 1987, is a non-profit community theatre organization based in Red Bank that has produced more than 100 revivals of Broadway hit musicals for 25 years.
