Red Bank Theater Watch: Al Pacino for One Night Only

Check out what's happening this week at Count Basie

Al Pacino-- the name signifies greatness and legendary talent in the world of Hollywood. He is one of the most respected actors of our time, and for one night only, Wednesday, June 1, Al Pacino, will be on stage at the Count Basie Theatre.

Best known for his work as Michael Corleone in The Godfather trilogy, and Tony Montana in Scarface, Pacino has won numerous awards for his craft, including an Academy Award for Best Actor, two Tony Awards, and the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Wednesday’s performance will include a lively discussion about his life, his acting career, and some backstage tales from a lifetime spent in the world of film and theater . He will also show never before seen film clips from his acting and directing career. There will also be a question and answer session which will allow the audience to truly connect one on one with Pacino. It is a once in a lifetime experience that is not to be missed.

The rest of the week is jam packed with exciting shows and performances:

On Friday, June 3, dance the night away at the Count Basie Dance-A-Thon.  The Dance-A-Thon is sponsored by the Count Basie Theatre Junior Board; a group of local students ages 10-18 whose mission is to support the Count Basie Theatre’s mission. The proceeds from the Dance-A-Thon will support the Count Basie’s booking of concerts and performances for young people.

The goal of the event is for all dancers participating to raise $300 by June 2, and then dance the night away from 7 pm to 1 am.  Those who make it to midnight will be able to experience a live performance by R&B singer Shontelle. 

On Saturday, June 4, Count Basie presents the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra “The Best of Ballet.” The performance pairs the elegant, timeless choreography of ballet with recognizable classics from The Nutcracker, The Firebird, Romeo and Juliet and Appalachian Spring.

Brides-to-be will be in their glory on Sunday, June 5 when Count Basie presents Bridal Bliss. The day showcases one of the most unique wedding locations in New Jersey—the one and only Count Basie Theatre!

On hand will be over 25 wedding professionals ready to answer all the brides' pressing wedding questions. There will also be a live runway fashion show, a tasting of signature dishes and great prizes. One of the best things about Bridal Bliss is that it is a completely free event, a welcome relief for every bride- to- be!

For the kids this week, Count Basie presents The Berenstain Bears in Family Matters—The Musical, on Tuesday, May 31.  The musical, presented by Matt Murphy Productions,  combines authors Stan and Jan Berenstain’s most popular books—The Berenstain Bears Learn about Strangers, The Berenstain Bears and Too Much Junk Food and The Berenstain Bears’ Trouble at School.

Here's the rundown of show times:

  • Tuesday, May 31: The Berenstain Bears in Family Matters—The Musical at 10 am
  • Wednesday, June 1: Al Pacino Live at 8 pm
  • Friday, June 3: Count Basie Dance-A-Thon from 7 pm - 1 am
  • Saturday, June 4: NJ Symphony Orchestra, Best of Ballet at 8 pm
  • Sunday, June 5: Bridal Bliss from 2 pm - 6 pm
