There is no question that we are a society of eaters. Engaging in an active social life usually revolves around gathering together for a seemingly endless supply of food and drinks. Needless to say, this can spell disaster for anyone who is trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
So what do you do when you’ve run out of excuses to not meet up with your friends for dinner and drinks? The answer is to become armed with information on how to make smart choices. How do you do that, you ask? The answer is simple: attend a Healthy Happy Hour hosted by local company 3 Healthy Chicks and find out how to have fun without blowing your diet in a matter of hours.
3 Healthy Chicks was founded by board certified holistic health counselors Lauren Forney, Terra Pfund and Jill Rizzi. The three met while attending the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York City.
Although each had a different area of expertise, their skills meshed perfectly and 3 Healthy Chicks was born. They are dedicated to spreading their mission statement, which is to “live green, eat organic and practice yoga to Keep It Fresh. They lead nutritious lives filled with yoga, art and advocacy and inspire others to do the same.”
Each of the 3 Healthy Chicks has a particular area of expertise. Lauren is a registered yoga teacher who specializes in counseling people with stressful and anxiety prone lives. Terra, also a registered yoga instructor, supports people who are going through major life transformations such as marriage or parenthood. Jill’s expertise lies in helping people who suffer from life altering immune disorders such as Lupus, MS or Rheumatoid Arthritis. This combination of knowledge allows them to help people from all walks of life.
3 Healthy Chicks are committed to educating people on where to find healthy resources in order to make healthy lifestyle choices. They lead lectures and workshops on a variety of different topics, such as how to make healthy choices in stores, how to curb sugar cravings and meal planning basics. They can adapt and gear their informative workshops to meet the needs and concerns for many different populations, such as seniors and teenagers.
The idea for a healthy happy hour was sparked by the realization that young women spend a lot of time at restaurants and bars socializing. Often times this leaves them faced with difficult decisions on what to eat or drink.
Healthy Happy Hour seeks to help take the stress out of social activity. It educates people on what the smarter menu choices are. It also emphasizes that staying on the right track means taking a mindful approach to eating and drinking. Healthy Happy Hour’s main goal, however, is to show people that you can be social and still make healthy choices.
A typical Healthy Happy Hour with 3 Healthy Chicks is a laid back and informative time. They will distribute copies of the menu with a few of the healthier choices highlighted, and a description of what foods to stay away from. From there, a very informal discussion usually develops, and the conversation flows between questions and suggestions on how to lead a healthier life.
Healthy Happy Hours can be attended by anyone and they are free of charge; you need only to pay for whatever (healthy) food or drinks you consume. They are a great way to become introduced to living a healthier lifestyle and to soak up tips and tricks for eating right while enjoying a night out.
The next Healthy Happy Hour will be held from 7pm-9pm on Friday, March 19 at Red. For more information on 3 Healthy Chicks, please visit them at http://3healthychicks.com/
