Coming Soon: Three Fair Haven Eateries

Three closed shops will reopen as new places to get coffee, burgers and gourmet take-out

The signs of some new places to grab a bite and a beverage are sprouting up along River Road in Fair Haven, signaling a new start for some old mainstay spots.

La Fandy has been empty for some time, and Patch has just received word that the popular Kind Burgers, a victim of Hurricane Sandy in Sea Bright, will take the spot.

Rumson owners Yvette and Anthony Cafaro are thrilled to have found the place to relocate and rebuild their specialty burger business, after seeing the building they leased all washed away to Sandy. They had only been open for a couple months, since the end of August.

"We started construction this week and plan to be open by April," Yvette Cafaro said. "We are very excited to bring Kind Burgers to Fair Haven where we will offer the same high quality gourmet burgers, dogs and fries with gluten-free, dairy-free and nut-free options."

In opening Kind Burgers, Anthony Cafaro had told Patch that he wanted to bring a casual place where people could grab a burger to the area. The plus was catering to those with allergies so that they could indulge and not feel left out.

So, for the Cafaros, offering gluten free buns and prime meats on which to enjoy them was a natural choice, amoung other specialties. They have a child with allergies and were pre-disposed to feeling her pain in being left out at times.

On the menu is Angus, grass-fed Kobe beef, lamb, turkey and portobello mushroom burgers and NY-style dirty water hot dogs, organic turkey dogs and more. Vegan options are available as well.

You'll be able to grab a burger there for yourself in April.

Down the road a bit is the old Gourmet Picnic, once the classic Corner Room and Esther's, now evolving into a BFF of a different kind — the foodie kind. Balderose Fine Foods Market will soon open at the spot. A peek inside the window tells the tale that it's all coming together rather quickly.

On the market's new Facebook page, owners posted this message: "Balderose Fine Foods Marketplace opening soon in Fair Haven, NJ! Offering prepared foods (hot & cold), coffee, pastries, desserts and more! Please be sure to share this post with friends and help us get the word out!"

Word is out. Check out the photos of some of the parties they have catered in the area. It's a pretty sure bet they'll be getting a lot of visits from busy, hungry people in the area with a taste for homemade gourmet foods.

And a few blocks down River Road is a sure sign that March, indeed, will be the time that Booskerdoo opens its doors, serving premium fresh-roasted coffee of every variety imaginable.

Mayor Ben Lucarelli is a fan and he says he can't wait.

Booskerdoo owners James and Amelia Caverly, who also have a cafe in Monmouth Beach, are set to open in March sometime. The sign is up and they're making progress.

Booskerdoo roasts its green coffee beans on site in a Diedrich Coffee Roaster, which is considered top of the line for bringing out flavor and richness, according to www.oncoffeemakers.com. The roasting and brewing is all done in the one place. And there are several specialty blends.

You can also purchase coffee, grinders and drip cones to take home. For more information on Booskerdoo, click here.

Good food and a good cup of coffee to top it off is on the menu in Fair Haven.
