Funk Out, Greene In

Funk and Standard has vacated its prominent Broad Street location for new digs. Its old space is being filled by a consignment shop.

The prime Broad Street location formerly home to is going Greene, with the variety store moving down the street and underground and its past digs welcoming a Philadelphia-based consignment retailer.

Soon after Funk and Standard completed its move out from 40 Broad St. to begin working on its new subterranean home at 7 Broad St., signs appeared in its former home advertising Greene Street, a chain of consignment shops with seven other locations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Greene Street, which claims to separate itself from other consignment stores by offering a wide variety of labels, not just high-end designer brands, is planning a September opening. With construction on its new location under way, Funk and Standard is planning an Aug. 31 reopening.

Funk’s new location, in addition to helping its owner save costs, also houses a kitchen, something the 40 Broad St. location lacked. This will allow for expansion of Funk’s Yummy Good brand, a combination juice and smoothie bar, which also features snacks and baked goods.

Greene Street chose to expand in Red Bank to be part of its vibrant downtown shopping and entertainment district, according to a release from the company. Founded in 1997, Greene Street has five Pennsylvania locations, as well as New Jersey stores in Princeton and Lambertville.
