Juanito's Market Set to Open

A year after purchasing a former Shrewsbury Avenue furniture store, Juan Torres is set to open Juanito's market.

The Juanito's brand is growing. The newest addition to Juan Torres' growing list of Red Bank businesses is Juanito's International Marqueta, a Shrewsbury Avenue market set to open officially on July 1.

The new market, which will offer fresh produce, meats and cheese, among canned goods and other typical market supplies, is located at the site of a longtime furniture and antique store right in the heart of the Westside business district and within walking distance of several borough neighborhoods.

Such was Torres' motivation for seeking to develop the market after purchasing the building one year ago. With virtually no parking to speak of, Torres told the Red Bank Zoning Board that he didn't consider it to be an issue, that a majority of his potential customers would walk to his market instead of making the longer trek to as they often had.

Torres, who owns Juanito's Restaurant on Monmouth Street and the bakery just a stone's throw away, as well as other Red Bank properties, earned zoning approval in September and set about transforming the building into his market. Now, Juanito's Market is set to open July 1.

In honor of the grand opening, Juanito's, located at 197 Shrewsbury Ave., is hosting a welcoming party for the neighborhood from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 1.
