Residents Not Consoled by Walgreens Changes

Traffic concerns to be aired in November.

The latest alterations of the plan to build a 14,000 square feet Walgreens in the spot of the shuttered Rassas car dealership have not eased nearby residents' angst over the proposal, according to app.com.

While traffic concerns have yet to be heard, the project developer's engineer and architect, D.J. Dougherty and Delle Donne, presented amended plans at Tuesday's Red Bank Planning Board meeting that include a 15-foot rear buffer landscaping where a wall was to go, the story in app.com said.

The idea: to remove the pharmacy further from abutting residences, it added.

However, where borough zoning requires 45 parking spaces on the site to accommodate the 14,000 square foot structure, the plan is now for 41 spots, reserving some of the buffer area for additional spots, if need be, the story said.

That was not much consolation for residents who have rallied against the plan, having cited that it's too big and close to a neighborhood for comfort and that traffic implications are nightmarish in an already congested area near a couple of near-gridlocked intersections.

Traffic concerns are slated for airing at the Nov. 18 hearing, the app.com story said.
