A Fine Day for Some Sailing on the Navesink

Monmouth Boat Club's junior sailors took to the river in Red Bank to learn the craft.

On a beautiful late Wednesday morning, junior sailors piled into small sailboats by the ones and twos and took to the Navesink River in Red Bank as part of Monmouth Boat Club's annual summer sailing program.

Tykes as young as eight to teens as old as 17, ranging in skill level from beginner to intermediate and advanced, piloted their mini-watercraft along the Navesink, passing anchored boats rounding buoys all along the way as crabbers and park goers at Marine Park next door looked on.

Lead instructor and Lincroft resident Alex Curtis said the eight-week summer program gives children the opportunity to learn the sailing ropes and older, more experienced sailors the chance to practice for upcoming competitions.

Check out the above pics for a look at junior sailors in action.

Yay for junior sailing! I used to sail Blue Jays, Comets and Lasers. Oh and Turnabouts.
The sailors out there all know why I am jealous that kids today get to Optimists. I miss sailing but not the Tubs. Thanks for the photos Ed.
