Coastal Flood Advisory in Effect Tonight

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. tonight. Rain and flooding could continue through Friday.

 A slow-moving, low pressure system is moving towards New Jersey and is expected to dump large amounts of rain, especially in the northern part of the state. 

The heaviest rainfall is expected tonight into Wednesday. The rain and flooding could continue through Friday.

The New Jersey Office of Emergency Management (NJOEM) is urging NJ residents to monitor weather conditions over the next several days.

“Be alert and be prepared for adverse conditions,” advises State Police Superintendent Colonel Rick Fuentes, Director of the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management. “Heavy rain can cause flash flooding.  If you are asked to evacuate or take other protective actions, follow the advice of emergency officials. ”

Here is the weather forecast from the National Weather Service for tonight through Friday:

Tonight: Periods of rain, with thunderstorms also possible after 2am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 57. East wind between 15 and 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible. 

Wednesday: Periods of rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 63. East wind between 15 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. 

Wednesday Night: Periods of rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 58. East wind between 9 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. 

Thursday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 71. East wind between 6 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. 

Thursday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56. East wind between 8 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. 

Friday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. 

Friday Night: A chance of thunderstorms before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
