Red Bank Elks' 9/11 Service Tonight at Riverside Gardens

Event to take place at 6 p.m.

The Red Bank Elks Lodge #233 will hold its annual Sept. 11 service at Tuesday at 6 p.m., the organization announced.

Riverside Gardens was the site where thousands of local residents stood on Sept. 11, 2001 and watched as smoke billowed on the horizon following the terrorist attacks.

Following the attacks, residents came together and erected makeshift memorials along the park's brick wall to honor the memories of those lost that day. The memorials stood there for the rest of the year before being removed.

Now, Riverside Gardens is home to permanent memorials for two men: Mark Hemschoot, 45, and Brendan Lang, 30. The two Red Bank residents were killed in the Sept. 11 attacks.

Chris is open, the ramp is good, but there is a charge to launch.
