Surges from Hurricane Irene Flood Navesink

Several riverside properties had significant flooding as high tide approached Sunday morning in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene.

Hurricane Irene not only brought heavy winds and rain to the New Jersey Shore, but surging tidal waters, too. In Red Bank along the Navesink, several properties, including Marine Park, suffered significant flooding as high tide approached Sunday morning.

Several private establishments, including Boondocks Fishery, Irwin Marina, and Red Bank Clay Courts, among others, found themselves with up to a foot of water surrounding them as of 10 a.m. Marine Park has suffered the most, it appears, with feet of water flooding its promenade, stretching through the parking lot and up to the kiddie park.

A quick walking tour of Red Bank reveals little damage, however, aside from a few downed trees, some torn banners and canopies, and plenty of leaves and brush scattered about. With all downtown businesses closed as of Sunday morning, things were quite, save for the one or two people walking around looking for damage.
