What's the Story in the Red Bank Area?

A look at the news and goings on in the area from what transpired last week to what we're looking into this week.

It's unofficial summertime in the Red Bank-Shrewsbury area and people are out and about and familiar programs are back.

In Red Bank, StreetLife performers have been out and will continue to be, there's outdoor dining and soon, in July, dogs will be out on a pedestrian/pet mall on part Monmouth Street the last Tuesday of each month through Halloween.

This week we'll take a look at the fate of the historic T. Thomas Fortune home. Officials have reiterated that while they don't own it or plan to, it's their desire to protect it and its historic value.

Kelly Ryan of Red Bank's Sandy-battered Boondocks will be the guest speaker at the Northern Monmouth Chamber of Commerce meeting on Thursday at noon at Park East in Hazlet.

The Red Bank Planning Board meets on Monday night at 6:30 p.m. and people may want to know more about a controversial Walgreen's application for the spot where Rassas Pontiac was located for many years. Officials had a few things to say about it at last week's council meeting, though it was not the right venue, and we'll be filling you in on that.

The popular Pat Guadagno will be at Jamian's on Monmouth Street in Red Bank at on Monday nights.

And, on the subject of music, the Sandy Hook Beach Concerts start on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
