Woman's Club Gets a Makeover

The aging backside of the Anthony Reckless estate is getting a much needed makeover. 

The Broad Street building, which is owned by the Red Bank Woman's Club, has presented a fine picture street side for some years but the paint on the sides and rear of the structure has peeled and chipped over the last few decades. 

On Friday, workers from Dave Larkin Construction were busy painting the shutters and chimneys of the building. For the last couple of months they've been hand stripping the 19th century building's wooden siding and are now in the process of adding paint. The work will be done in about a month, one of the crew members said.

The building has been home to the Woman's Club since 1920. According to the club's website, the building was purchased at a time before women could vote and when they had little property rights and used to help educate women. The goal of the club has been to promote literacy ever since.
