1. Judge Rules Against Obama Objectors

The denial of a bid by two Shore residents to challenge President Obama's eligibility to appear on New Jersey's primary ballot was by far the most read story of 2012. Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno would go on to uphold a judge's decision that ruled against a suit brought by men from Wall and Toms River.

Once Sandy battered New Jersey's coast, local residents turned to Patch for the latest information. The aforementioned update was published hours after Sandy made its initial impact, knocking out power to virtually all of Red Bank and Shrewsbury.

We took a look back at Red Bank's own Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash as the first season of its television show, "Comic Book Men," concluded on AMC. We wondered if the show would be picked up for a second season. Well, a few months later we were back with the crew on the eve of another television go-round.

Readers certainly were anxious to learn that a small child was arrested on an assault charge back in April.

Coverage of Sandy's impact understandably loomed large among our most-read stories of 2012. Many were interested to see the storm's effect on the Navesink hours before the superstorm truly hit our shores. 

7. Boy Involved In Long Branch Sand Collapse Dies in Hospital

While Red Bank and Shrewsbury news is certainly our focus, we don't hesitate to feature notable stories from our Patch neighbors throughout the region. Sadly, often those reports concern tragedies, such as this story from July in which an Oakhurst boy died after a sand tunnel collapsed on him in Long Branch.

8. First Look: Red Bank After Sandy

Red Bank and Shrewsbury thankfully did not fare nearly as bad as many of our neighbors after Sandy slammed the region. But residents of course wanted to see the storm's impact in our area as they woke up the morning after the storm hit.

9. 2012 KaBoom! Fireworks Canceled

There was great interest in our report on how the 2012 Kaboom fireworks display, which attracts up to 100,000 people annually, would be canceled due to the costs associated with staging such a display over the Navesink. 

10. Orionids Meteor Shower Tonight

People certainly appreciated the reminder that the annual Orionids meteor shower was happening Oct. 20, as we offered tips on how best to watch the sky show.
