Lynn Humphrey Offers a Free List of Local Events

Lynn Humphrey says telling people about "good news" has improved her life.

For more than six years, Lynn Humphrey, 60, of Eatontown has been circulating a free list of things to do in Monmouth County.

It started out as an email to her brother that just kept growing. Today, she estimates she reaches 10,000 recipients. Informing people of positive events around town is therapeutic, said Humphrey, who speaks candidly in her email blasts and website about her recovery from alcoholism, HIV-positive status and weight loss journey. "The list keeps me sober and keep me from being depressed," she said in a phone interview.

Humphrey's small business is called "BizETurtle" because she is a longtime collector of all things turtles (except for the real thing). She charges venues a fee for certain kinds of listings and sponsorships but laments she doesn't really make much money on the list. "I just want people to know about these things," she said. A proud grandmother and now a Brookdale student, she recently began a blog on Long Branch-Eatontown Patch where she is challenging herself to write something about all of the county's 53 municipalities through the end of the month.

Here are some Monmouth County events from her most recent BizETurtle event list, reprinted here with permission. (To sign up for her newsletter, visit this link.)
