Former Shrewsbury, Red Bank Resident Richard Haynes Dies at 83

Services are slated for Thursday.

Former Shrewsbury and Red Bank resident Richard Anthony Haynes died surrounded by family at his Fair Haven home on the morning of Sunday, Jan. 5. He was 83.

Born in Philadelphia, Dick grew up in northern NJ and spent many summers in Monmouth Beach. He and Ann raised their children in Shrewsbury and later moved to Red Bank and Fair Haven. They were longtime members of the Monmouth Beach Bath & Tennis Club.

Dick was a member of the first graduating class at Delbarton School in 1948. Upon graduating from Seton Hall University, he served in the National Guard. He joined his father in a poultry business in Red Bank, traded commodities in NY, worked for Ralston Purina, and in later years was a buyer for Fancy Foods at the Hunts Point poultry wholesale market in NY.

Dick is predeceased by his wife Ann, the love of his life.

He is survived by: his twin brother Frank, of Naperville, IL; children, Mary Ellen and husband John Bunt, of Fair Haven, Rich and wife Laurie Haynes, of San Diego, CA and Paul and wife Mary Haynes, of Fair Haven.

"Pop-pop" to his nine grandchildren, each was a source of great pride and immense joy to him: Alex, Dillon, Graham and Andrew Bunt; Ryan, Sean and Megan Haynes, of San Diego; and Claire and Monica Haynes.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday Jan. 9 at 9:30 a.m. at Church of the Nativity Chapel, 180 Ridge Rd., Fair Haven. A memorial mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. following visitation.
