Longtime Red Bank Resident, Dorothy Loversidge, Dies at 95

Services begin on Monday.



Longtime Red Bank resident Dorothy F. Loversidge passed away on Nov. 1 at Riverview Medical Center. She was 95.

Born in Keyport, Dorothy lived in Middletown before moving to Red Bank in 1936. She was a communicant St. James Roman Catholic Church as well as a member of the Catholic Daughters of St. James. In the community, Dorothy was a member of the Red Bank Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for more than 50 years. She was also a member of the Red Bank Senior Center as well as a Girl Scout leader.

A graduate of Leonardo High School, Dorothy worked at the A&P stores in Red Bank and Little Silver for more 20 years. She also served as a Red Bank schools crossing guard. She retired from her jobs to care for her six grandchildren.  

Dorothy was known as an accomplished seamstress, an expert painter and wallpaperer and a professional hair stylist. She was Mom to her children, Nana to her grandchildren and Dot to her friends. She devoted her life to caring for her family and her community.

Dorothy is predeceased by: her parents, Frank and Theresa Piney; her husband, Jack Loversidge; an infant son; a sister, Evelyn Funderburke; and a brother, Frank Piney.

She is survived by: her four children, Barbara Boas and husband Stephen Hecht, of Red Bank, Jack and wife Patricia of Donora, PA, Bruce and wife Marylou, of Avalon, and Patricia West and husband Lee, of Jackson; six grandchildren, Chuck, Kevin, Lee, Jr., Jaki, Tara and Trenna; three great-grandchildren, Ariel, Aurora and James; and several nieces, nephews and cousins and many dear friends.

Visitation will be on Monday Nov. 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank. A Mass will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m. at St. James Church, Red Bank, followed the interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
