Longtime Red Bank resident George
T. Mayer passed away at 92 on Friday, Oct. 4, surrounded
by family at his home.
Born in Jersey City, George lived in Cedar Grove
before moving to Red Bank 30 years ago. He was past president of the
Rutgers Alumni Association, a member of The Holy Name Society and
Commander and Chief of the American Legion.
The 25-year snowbird at Pine Ridge South IV in Lake Worth, Florida was also a five-time champion
of the Shadow Lake Golf Club and 15-year president of the Shadow Lake Tennis
George is predeceased by: his loving wife,
Lorraine J. Mayer, in 2009; and his six brothers; Charles, William, Jimmy,
Kenneth, Bobby and Joey.
He is survived by: his four sons, Larry Mayer and wife Kathy, of Rocky Hill, CT, George Mayer Jr., of Little Silver,
Mickey Mayer, of Wanamassa, and Jim Mayer, of Hillsborough; his three
daughters, Peggy Lawson and husband Ed, of Wall, Eileen Marvin and husband Charlie, of Brick, and Mary Mayer, of Millville; and his nine grandchildren, Maureen Niro and husband Jason, Michael Lawson, Chaz,
Kevin, and Jim Marvin and wife Lindsay, and Amanda, Jena, Matthew,
and Brian Mayer.
Visitation will be held at the John E. Day
Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, on Wednesday,
Oct. 9, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., with a funeral mass to follow at
St. James Roman Catholic Church at 11 a.m.
Entombment will follow at Mt.
Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in
George's memory to PAFACOM Inc. 1301 W. Forest Road Building 3C
