Red Bank Barber, Past Liberty Hose Fire Chief John Abbatemarco Dies at 79

Services begin on Sunday


Longtime Red Bank resident, barber and active volunteer John A. Abbatemarco died on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Riverview Medical Center. He was 79.

A well-known barber in the Red Bank area for many years, John was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church. He was an past chief of Liberty Hose Co., Red Bank, and was an active member of the Red Bank First Aid Squad and Fire Police.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Cono and Mary Abbatemarco.

He is survived by: his son, Thomas Ensley, Middletown; his loving companion, Muriel DeFazio; brother, Anthony Abbatemarco and wife Madeline, of Shrewsbury; sister, Mary Promanski, of Cinnaminson; two grandchildren, Thomas Jr. and Raymond Ensley; and many extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, at Church of the Nativity, 180 Ridge Road, Fair Haven.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Liberty Hose Fire Department, 45 White St., Red Bank, NJ 07701.
