Shrewsbury Township Resident, Mary Pennington Hughes, Dies at 91

Services were held on Tuesday


Longtime Shrewsbury Township resident Irene Mary Pennington Hughes died on Jan. 17. She was 91.

A resident of Shrewsbury for the past 60 years, Irene was a homemaker, a Girl Scout Leader, and a member and former officer of the Women's Club, according to legacy.com.

She was known for her love of family, travel, vacations to Wildwood and winters in Florida, the obituary said.

"She was a loving wife, a devoted and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and beloved aunt," it added. "With a warm, engaging, and gracious personality, Irene had an infectious smile, a twinkle in her eye, and a quick and easy sense of humor. She loved being with people and inspired everyone to have a good time."

Irene is predeceased by: parents, William A. and Mary Hogan Pennington;  husband James J. Hughes Jr.; and brothers William and Thomas Pennington.

She is survived by: two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Andrew Pourchier, of St. Simons Island, GA, and Debbie and Steven Lotosky, of Long Valley, N.J.; a son and daughter-in-law, James J. Hughes and wife Sue, of Herndon, VA.; nine grandchildren, Allison Corallo, James J. Hughes, Andrew Pourchier, Jeffrey Pourchier, Brian Lotosky, Christopher Pourchier, Sean Lotosky, Elisabeth and Katherine Hughes; her sister-in-law, Pauline Hughes, of Annandale, VA; six adorable great-grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
