Community Corner

Garden Club R.F.D. & Community Events

December brought several opportunities for the members of Garden Club RFD to take part in community events. On Friday, December 6, the Club participated in the Visiting Nurse Association’s Tour of Homes by decorating the beautiful home of Val Zabaleta and her family at 1 Allencrest Road in Rumson. Floral arrangements created by Gloria Bandarenko, Nancy Canade, Carlene Gazire, Jacquie Nelson, Linda Paula, Claire Soeters, Janet Steinberg, Trish Sullivan and Helen Yorke enhanced the kitchen, living room, dining room and den.

The next day, December 7, another group of members took part in the restoration of Sea Bright’s dunes by planting dune grass along with other Garden Club volunteers from Fair Haven, Navesink, Rumson, Shrewsbury and Little Silver Garden Clubs and a group of Sea Bright residents.    A representative of the American Littoral Society gave a brief presentation on how and where to plant the dormant dune grass culms and off we went—a beautiful day but windy and in the forties.

Garden Club RFD Meetings are usually held on the third Tuesday of each month at the Little Red School House on the corner of Middletown Lincroft and Dwight Roads in Middletown unless otherwise designated as it will be next month when the January 21 Meeting will be held at Middletown Art Center at 36 Church Street in Middletown. The business meeting at 10:00 am will be followed by a presentation at 11:00 am  by Cathy Miller, a well-known designer, author, radio and TV personality. Cathy has been honored by having 60 plus dried arrangement designs placed in the White House for the Jimmy Carter administration through the George W. Bush administration.  She is the author of “Harvesting, Preserving & Arranging Dried Flowers”.
